Tips & tricks for a productive home office

Most of us are extremely familiar with the term working from home, but how productive are you in your home office? Studies have shown that 85 per cent of Australians reported being either equally or more productive when working from home compared to the office. Whilst this is a big number of Aussies, what about the other 15 percent? If this is you, or you’re looking to brush up on your working from home skills, time to tune in.

Get comfortable
Have you ever thought about how many chairs or seats you sit on every day? The average working day for Aussies is more than 8 hours, that's a long time to be sitting down so it’s important to make sure you’re comfy! Invest in a good sturdy chair to look after your back, a nice big desk (standing desk if you want to take it to the next level) and good lighting so you can maintain focus and not have to worry about getting sore eyes.

Keep your technology up to date
Make sure your tech is always on the latest version to avoid automatic updates when you’re in the middle of something important! Reliable WiFi is also an essential as we have all become very accustomed to the world of Zoom!

Remove distractions
Out of sight, out of mind! We’re talking gaming consoles, TV, playful puppies and anything/anyone else that could pull you out of your hustling work mode.

Take regular breaks
Mix it up, get creative to help keep your mind stimulated. Fresh air and regular exercise to get your body moving can help with raising energy levels, combating stress and fatigue and overall improving your general well-being.

Establish a good routine
It’s much easier when you’re working from home to roll out of bed and go straight into your work day… time to break out of this habit! Use your ‘pre Covid travelling to the office time’ to go for a stroll, grab a coffee, cook breakfast and set some goals for the day!

Work with purpose
Maintain a boundary for when work starts and finishes so you're able to stay focused on the task at hand. This can be difficult to navigate when your work and living conditions are changing on the reg, but try to be cautious of maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
